Finals Stress to Shopping Stress
College Student’s Shopping Styles
With the Holidays just around the corner, it is down to the final shopping countdown. The smart students will use Cyber Monday and Black Friday to get their gifts, but for the rest of us, we have a lot of catching up to do! We just finished finals and now we are expected to go buy everyone a bunch of presents! So, instead of starting my Holiday shopping, I decided to ask my peers how they plan to shop. Here is what I found: a list of three different types of college student shoppers.
#3 The “I have no clue what to buy, I don’t even know what’s out there” shopper:
This type of shopper will rely heavily on ads they see on social media, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. These sites have so many ads on them now and sometimes it can be very annoying, however, during the Holiday season sometimes the perfect ad can come up at the perfect time and set you up on a long online-shopping adventure. Students spend a lot of time procrastinating on social media, so these ads have found a perfect demographic. This makes procrastination somewhat productive in the sense that you can rely on others (ads) to tell you what to buy. This may not lead to the cheapest of holiday shopping, but at least you have a few ideas about what to get people.

#2 The “I don’t do online shopping” shopper:
This type of shopper will be found at the nearest mall with bags on bags of gifts. With most shipping prices being so high and unreliable this close to the holiday season, students are sticking with the good old fashioned shopping in store. The crowds of the shopping malls are the least of our worries as we scramble to find the perfect gift for everyone in just a few short days.
#1 The “I know what I want and I want it now” shopper:
If you fall under this category, online shopping is the way to go. You are not alone here, it has been stated that 96% of college students prefer online shopping. This is actually the best option for any type of student, from the lazy/doesn’t want to get out of bed kind of student to the students that are way too busy to ever leave campus. Just Google your favorite store, and their website is sure to pop up! The best place for last minute presents is Amazon. It is a quick one stop shop where you can get presents for all of your friends and family. The best part about Amazon is they offer a free subscription to Prime with your student ID. That means free 2-day shipping on all of your last minute presents.
So it looks like I will be needing to head to Amazon to set up my free Prime account and start doing my Holiday shopping. I hope you all have an amazing Holiday season! Best wishes to you all!
